Treating Issues with Sweating

February 28, 2010

Excessive sweating plagues over one third of the people on the earth. This problem can run in families and can be in your genes. This condition is not only caused by genes but other contributing factors could include the menopause, overactive thyroid or antidepressant drugs.

This condition can be quite embarrassing especially when it causes sweat patches or unpleasant body odour. It is not the actual sweat that smells. The sweat is broken down into to fatty acids by bacteria which breed in it. The nasty body odour is caused by the fatty acids.

Areas of the body which are more prone to excessive sweating are the hands, face, groin, armpits and feet. A condition called bromhidrosis which causes sweat to be broken down by yeast and bacteria, can sometimes occur as a result of excessive sweating. Symptoms of this include cracked, white, red and inflamed areas which can be extremely itchy and uncomfortable.

Because of this, you should ensure you can fully cope with your sweating problems. A lot of people think that using deodorants will stop their sweating. However not all deodorants are anti-perspirants, they don’t stop sweat but just disguise its odor. The best deodorant will be an antiperspirant containing aluminum chloride which helps to keep pores closed and prevents sweating.

Avoid wearing clingy clothing as they exaggerate the condition. It is better to choose loose fitting clothing which will allow your body to breathe. Lighter clothing is better as stains do not appear as prominent. Wearing dark clothing will mean that sweat patches are more visible.

Sweating will be increased if you drink hot fluids so you should limit the amount you drink. If you want to help keep sweating to a minimum, you should instead drink lots of water which will help to keep you cool.

Follow these tips and you will soon start to stop sweating.
