To Grandmother’s House We Go

October 29, 2009

The Holiday season is back already. This is the time of year that many families start to sing the the old refrain of “Off to grandmother’s house we go.”

We all know that it’s one of life’s great rewards to have our own parents marvel at and praise the conversational skills and arobatic antics of our children. That’s what grandparents do. It’s good to be there but sometimes the trip iself is not the best of fun. Travelling with children can be difficult.

While visiting grandparents and staying over for a few or several days may mean going home to us, Grandma’s house is probably a new and strange environment to your kids. Especially if you live far away and only get to visit one or two tmes a year. What can you do to make your kids more comfortable with their temporary surroundings, and not coicidentally make the trip for everybody else involved a lot more pleasant and memorable?

Kids like familiarity. One way to bring some familiarity along on the trip is to bring the kid’s beds with them. Not the whole bedroom of course, but how about the Spiderman bed? For them that probably is the whole bedroom, at least when it’s time to get them to sleep at night.

Of course you are not going to toss a box spring and coil mattress on top of the car, but you can easily stow a kids inflatable mattress or two, or three, in a corner in the trunk of the car. The Aerobed for kids air mattress comes with its own convenient carry bag for just such contingencies.

If beds are in short supply at Grandmas toss in an intex air mattress or two for the adults.
